Tourists can also get a first-hand glimpse of the country’s array of species (including those facing extinction) by visiting the Zoological Gardens at the National Research Institute of Amazônia in Manaus.

Manaus, the capital of the Amazonas State, is a city on the Rio Negro that is the center for Brazil’s growing ecotourism. Visitors can take tours along the Amazon River, sunbathe at Ponta Negra beach, or go horseback-riding through the tropical wetland, Pantanal.
