Intro

Just 15 miles south of San Diego lies Tijuana, a city in Baja California, Mexico, known for its small shops along famous Revolution Avenue that sell hand-made crafts and jewelry. Since the late 1800s, Tijuana has depended on its flourishing tourism, attracting a large number of traveling Southern California locals.

Today, tourists enjoy the city’s popular nightlife scene and spectator sports like jai alai—similar to racquet ball—at the Jai Alai Fronton Palace. A common sport between May and September is bull fighting, which is held at several local arenas including Plaza El Toreo and Plaza Monumental de Playas. Visitors can also participate in several water activities like surfing and kayaking near Tijuana’s beaches.

The Tijuana Visitor’s Bureau offers daily walking tours that lead past historical highlights like the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture and the Tijuana Cultural Center which features everything from ancient cave paintings to IMAX movies about the city’s culture. Stop at the Tijuana Wax Museum which includes over 90 wax figures of memorable people in history or taste some freshly brewed beer at the TJ Brewery Co.
