Intro

Trieste is the capital of the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Italy and has 260,000 inhabitants. It is situated on the crossroads of several distinct commercial and cultural flows, and as such, is a singular travel and vacation destination.

The artistic and cultural heritage of Trieste is linked to its “border town” location. Here you can find Roman architecture, Austrian Empire architecture (similar to that in Vienna) and a rich atmosphere of Mediterranean styles, as Trieste was a very important port during the 18th century.

Its main sights include the Castle of Miramare, built for Archduke Maximilian; the Castle of San Giusto; several beautiful churches including the Trieste Cathedral; the Arch of Riccardo, built in the Roman walls in 33 B.C.; and the Roman amphitheater at the foot of the San Giusto hill. Trieste is also famous for over 1,500 caves of various sizes, including the Grotta Gigante, the largest tourist cave in the world.
