Williamsburg, in southeastern Virginia, boasts a rich history that has shaped much of its appeal—from museums to monuments. Williamsburg is a city of foundations: The site of the first canal in the United States, the first psychiatric hospital, the oldest continually-operating church and the College of William and Mary, America’s second oldest university. Tourism in the 20th century reinvigorated what had become a sleepy town.

From 1699 to 1780, Williamsburg served as the capital of England’s largest and richest mainland North American colony. The area’s buildings have been meticulously restored and visitors are offered interpretations of life in a young America. Students of history have the opportunity to image Patrick Henry sitting down for a pint at the Raleigh Tavern, Thomas Jefferson striding down the halls of the Capitol or the Governor’s Palace, or James Monroe spending a Sunday at the Bruton Parish Church. A visit can provide new insights into the thinking and lives of those who fought the Revolutionary War and founded America.

The land called 'Powhatan' is a colonial plantation whose heritage dates to the 18th century. In 1735, Richard Taliaferro, the area's leading architect, constructed Powhatan Plantation's Manor House as his home. Restored with painstaking attention to historical detail, the manor house is the hallmark of our beautiful resort. The resort is located on over 250 acres of land, which includes a natural wildlife setting. Surrounded by a wooded forest, open fields, water foul and 5 small lakes, Powhatan offers a general store and two restaurants for our guest??s convenience. Amenities include a 19-hole mini-golf course, hiking and biking trails, basketball, volleyball, horseshoe pit, racquetball, tennis courts, weight room and a variety of workshops and classes for guests of all ages. Most units offer a fully equipped kitchen, patio or deck and fireplace. Some units also offer hot tubs off the master bedroom and living area. Located nearby Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown Battlefield and Historic Colonial Williamsburg. World-class golfing, shopping and a wide array of restaurants can be easily accessed within minutes of leaving the resort. Centrally located in Williamsburg within a couple of miles of the business district. The Historic Powhatan indoor pool will be closed beginning June 4th, 2009 for 6 weeks as a result of a major water leak. We estimate that it will be back in service by July 17th. This only affects the indoor pool. The outdoor pools are all open for the summer.
