Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes, Calif., is located between Yosemite National Park and Nevada.

The Mammoth Lakes area is home to natural and historic scenery including Rainbow Falls, the Devil’s Postpile National Monument and Bodie Ghost Town, as well as an array of lakes including Mono Lake where visitors can go swimming, water skiing, fishing and kayaking. For summer activities outside of the water, visitors can go hiking, golfing, mountain biking and geocaching, an outdoor treasure-hunt where participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) to hide and find containers (with “treasure”) in the ground. Hot air ballooning and scenic flights are a great way for visitors to see a bird’s eye view of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains.

During the winter months, locals and visitors from afar test the mountain terrain by skiing, snowboarding and dog sledding. On a gondola ride to the top of Mammoth Mountain, you can see the far away mountains and town covered in fresh snow. Visitors especially enjoy visiting Mammoth Lakes in the fall, when the leaves of the trees are vibrant shades of orange, gold and red.
