  Millennium Park is one of the newest additions to Chicago's many wide-open urban spaces, and is host to a range of indoor/outdoor activities for the entire family. You can listen to top musical events at the outdoor pavilion, or glide across the bustling ice skating rink come winter. The park is also home to some of the city's best public art, such as the interactive Crown Fountain, and the scene-stealing Cloud Gate—a mirrored sculpture situated in the middle of the plaza. For a scenic walk, take a stroll through the Lurie Garden, or wind your way along Frank Gehry's BP Bridge. For a bit of the park's history, be sure to take a peek at the Peristyle, a replica of the curving row of paired Greek columns that were on the corner of Grant Park near Michigan and Randolph from 1917 to 1953. While in the park one cannot afford to miss the Cloud Gate Sculpture, a three storied structure built with 110 tons of steel. It is called the Bean Sculpture by the residents.

  The statue was placed in its present, permanent location on July 6, 1979, a mile south of I-90 on U.S. Highway 169. It is estimated that 10,000 people a year visit the statue. The pedestal is accessible by steps, and the statue is maintained by the city, which cleans the giant at least once a year and adorns it with a red scarf around his neck during the Christmas Season.

  Tucked in a gorgeous valley surrounded on all sides by mountains (indeed a hole of sorts), Jackson Hole, Wyoming is not far from Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, and serves as the gateway to these popular attractions. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, the area has attracted the rich and famous (and Vice President Dick Cheney), many of whom have purchased summer homes in the valley. Their presence in the valley lends it a cosmopolitan feel, which presents an interesting counter point to the frontier feeling, and the rustic natural setting.

  Despite the many ways it has been parodied on screen from “Mars Attacks!” to Family Guy, Mount Rushmore National Memorial near Keystone, South Dakota continues to stand as an important tribute to the American forefathers that attracts 2 million visitors per year.
  The giant granite carving that cost almost $1 million and took more than a decade to complete features the heads and busts of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The site initially generated controversy, as it was seized from the Native American Lakota tribe and sculpted by Gutson Borglum, an active member of the Ku Klux Klan; but today the monument is considered a tribute to American history and leadership.
  Get inside the presidents’ heads with a trip up into the chamber carved into the rock behind their faces, which contains copies of the Constitution and other documents. Hike along the Presidential Trail, pause to watch a movie about the monument’s history at the amphitheater at the Lincoln Borglum Museum and stick around till dusk for the evening lighting ceremony.
