The elegant Royal Palms Hotel & Restaurant, situated on a tree-lined lane near Hamilton, offers the best of Bermudian hospitality. You may wish to relax or chat with other guests on the veranda or in the intimate restaurant lounge. Ascots, one of the Island's finest restaurants, serves lunch and dinner in antique-appointed dining rooms or outdoors where tree frogs serenade at night. Hamilton, in Pembroke Parish, is Bermuda’s administrative center and largest city. It boasts a large quantity of museums, some fine buildings and architecture, and numerous forts, fortifications and bits of Royal Naval heritage. There are cinemas, shops, bars, hotels and restaurants. The city is also blessed with markets, gardens, beaches, and squares and plazas with wide streets.

Tourist travel to Bermuda to escape North American winters first developed in Victorian times. Tourism continues to be important to the island’s economy, although international business has surpassed it in recent years. Bermuda has developed into a highly successful offshore financial center. Bermuda also receives many visits from cruise ships during the summer months.

The islands benefit from an excellent and frequent bus service, which connects all parts of the islands to Hamilton. The buses are used equally by locals and visitors. Ride one to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo, which has for its center piece a 140,000 gallon replica coral reef, Horseshoe Bay Beach, or Snorkel Park.

Going out to eat in Bermuda is quite an expensive proposition, especially if you have an entire family to feed. Pasta Basta provides a solution. Here you can dine on lasagna, spaghetti, rigatoni, ravioli, and other pastas in a cafeteria-style setting, at a reasonable price. Seafood, meat and alfredo sauces are available to accompany the various dishes. Portions are in half (USD 6) and full (USD 10) servings. You also get a choice of Caesar or garden salad to start your meal. Alcohol is not served and you are not permitted to bring your own.

Snorkeling and eco-tours are the bread and butter of this operation. Daily snorkeling cruises leaving from Hamilton will take you to Somerset Bridge, the Royal Naval Dockyards and various other areas of reefs and shipwrecks. You will even be provided bait to hand-feed tropical fish. These trips are $45 per person and $20 per child. For $50 per person and $25 per child you can participate in the "aquarium tour". After snorkeling the reefs, you will go to the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zooto learn more about the native marine life. Admission to the zoo is included with your fee. The sunset cruise ($50 per person) leaves at 7:30p M-Su and includes refreshments and wine. Private charters are also available. Call ahead for reservations on all trips.

If you want a British pub atmosphere and a fun night out, Hog Pennys is the place to be. The menu features traditional British dishes including "Bangers and Mash" (Beef sausages and Mashed potatoes) and Shepherd's Pie and Fish-and-Chips. Desserts such as Mud Pie (a naughty coffee ice cream, Kahlua and whipped cream concoction) and English Sherry Trifle do wonders for the palate, if not for the figure. Entertainment, usually singing duos with guitar, takes place nightly until 1a. Dress is casual, appropriate for the informal atmosphere.

This watersports company offers its customers the best way to see St. George. Eight-minute parasailing trips around the harbor allow brave souls to enjoy a bird's-eye view and see some spectacular vistas. Trips are solo or tandem.

In addition to coffee, tea, light lunches and breakfast selections are served here. Tuna, chicken breast and turkey sandwiches are popular choices. If you're in a pinch for time or just want to play nine, the golf course at the Horizons and Cottages Resort should do the trick. The nine hole, par-27 executive course is primarily used by guests of the hotel, but it is also open to the public. The links are not the most remarkable or challenging on the island, but the course is usually in excellent condition.

If you want to experience the old Bermuda, the way it was before the era of urbanization, this is the park for you. Trails lead around fields and through the woodlands, reminding visitors that Bermuda was once an agrarian community. The park is also an excellent venue for bird-watching as many migrant species use this as a rest stop. For example, keep an eye out for Bermuda's beloved longtails.
