-
[Full Description]
Located in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, the nation of Antigua and Barbuda comprises two islands, and is known for its stunning white sand beaches and coral reefs. The islands were also the site of an 18th century naval base and expansive sugar cane plantations; almost 100 stone cane mill processing towers remain, now used as homes, restaurants and shops. The original sugar estate, Betty’s Hope, has a restored sugar cane mill available for viewing.
The capital, St. John’s, lies on the big island of Antigua and features the St. John’s cathedral, and a lively downtown hub. The island of Barbuda is largely undeveloped and is home to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, with more than 150 bird species and 5,000 frigate birds. The country also hosts the annual Stanford Antigua Sailing Week in late April and early May, one of the world’s premier regattas.

If you want the most ideal weather conditions for windsurfing, stay here. If you just want to splash some water you can still stay here. This beach is located close to a formerly family run hotel (Lord Nelson's) which is now closed, but it is frequented by those wanting a good windsurf or just peace and quiet on a Sunday afternoon. There is a windsurfing shop where instruction and rental is given during season. Ask for Patrick. You might want to plan a little picnic, as the sandy space is abundant. Bear in mind that the closed hotel is now run by about five very friendly doggies that may want to play with you.[Full Description]

TravelMuse - Lashings Beach Cafe & Inn, Antigua and Barbu...
Music, madness, jamming, jumping and lots of beach cricket, not to mention Antigua's most enjoyable full moon party best describes this very funky spot. Two former cricket heroes, David Folby and Richie Richardson, decided it was time to party and created Lashings. Very laid back—the bar sits on the beach, and the restaurant and has a large dining patio outside. The clientele includes a business crowd, but primarily tourists during the weekdays. In the evenings, it becomes the bar to hang out after work and Friday nights are a riot. Service is turtle-like. Lots of munchie foods like nachos drenched in meat sauce and cheese or goat cheese salad with tomatoes and rotis dominate the menu. The make a very delicious English breakfast if you're really hungry. Of course, the bar is well stocked from morning to night, so if a rum and coke is what you fancy at 9a, place your bill on the table and say, cheers. You will no doubt have a ball at Lashings.[Full Description]
