A massive stone wall wraps around a promontory overlooking the sea to the south. To get here, park in the Nelson's Dockyard lot—there's a small entrance fee to get into the dockyard. Walk to the Copper & Lumber Store Hotel (The) and continue past it to the right. A path leads through brush up an incline to the fort. Keep your eyes open for small signs describing the plant life. Built in three stages between 1704 and 1745, this stronghold housed more than two dozen large cannons and provided superb visibility to the east, west and south.
