Built in the 1950s, the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme is one of the world's most complex dual water and electricity projects. The Power Stations, around a two-hour drive from Jindabyne, are open daily from 9a-4p, with tours in summer. Tumut 2, Elliott Way via Cabramurra is an underground station, one kilometre inside a mountain. There is a light show and audio-visual display. At the Murray 1 Interactive Centre, Alpine Way, it is hands-on fun. Tumut 3 Interpretive Centre, Murray Jackson Drive, Talbingo, is the country's largest power station and has an excellent educational centre.
