Tagine Sydney, Australia

Many reviews of Tagine have labeled it a North African restaurant, which in Sydney tends to mean Moroccan, but at its heart, this Rozelle eatery is Egyptian. Chef Ramy Magalaa was born in Cairo and the memories of his homeland are imbued in the menu. As the restaurant’s name implies, tagines are the specialty here. Hearty and heart-felt, the signature lamb shoulder tagine with new potatoes and garlic is a wonderful, melt-in-your-mouth main, but the seafood tagine (featuring calamari, barramundi and prawns) is just as impressive. Skip the modern sweets and end your meal with an authentic Egyptian dessert. Open Tuesday through Thursday from 18:30 on. -Kashmir Brummel
