Situated near the Queen Victoria Market, family owned and run Caffé Scaletti has a homley atmosphere. Some regulars are local workers who have eaten here every day for years. The decor is typical city café/restaurant. Movie posters decorate some walls and there are magazines and newspapers provided—making it a comfortable place for solo diners. It has the usual focaccia, pasta, risotto fare and a few specials. The lasagna is great, but disappears quickly. If it is not on the menu, try asking the chef, who does take requests. The house-made pastas range from traditional to nouveau.
