If you've had enough of the allegedly stiff and formal Hanseatic people and feel you could do with proper Bavarian food and ambience for a change, why not try the Franziskaner. The waitresses wear traditional Dirndl dresses and the interior is very impressively decorated in authentic Bavarian style. There are rumors that real Bavarian guests sometimes spontaneously start singing folk songs at the bar. Rich and tasty meals like roast pork and veal sausage with pickled cabbage, pretzels and dumplings are on the menu here. They can be washed down with the typical Maß of real Bavarian beer - even in Hamburg!

Food good, smoke bad
Food was pretty good. Very good goulash soup and schnitzel was good. Staff doesn't speak English and smoke from the bar was a bit much at times.
