Calle Ipiales was constructed in 1930 right in the center of the city. It is a place where all kinds of merchants, wholesale distributors, and retail traders, gather to buy and sell their products, mainly clothes and shoes. It is an exceptional place to buy articles of great quality at very low prices, especially at the markets on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This place was a piece of wasteland used as a transportation terminal, La Quebrada del Tejar, and later became a street market. It is an extremely busy place on weekdays and even busier on Saturdays.
