Officially the Henley Royal Regatta, this rowing event on the Thames is a delightful way to enjoy the summer weather. Chic country and straw hats are sported, but this isn't Ascot. The atmosphere is more relaxed, convivial and fun, and a good portion of the course is open to the public. The sculling itself is of a world-class standard. Henley is only 35 miles west of London (travel by train from Paddington), and the event runs from Wednesday to Sunday at the end of June/beginning of July. There are catering facilities on site.
