Set in 15th-century surroundings with a flagstone floor and beamed ceilings, you could be sitting on the very settle or oak furniture used by Oliver Cromwell. The food here is said to be simple—but with a meal consisting of lasagna of ratatouille with seared halloumin tapenade and basil oil, rosette of lamb with puy lentils, baby vegetables and sauce soubise and a pudding of aniseed parfait with fresh raspberries and nougatine, the choice seems rather exotic. Oliver's boasts a good choice of wines, beers, and lager and, somewhat uniquely, a separate smoking room.
