It's often wet in Wales, but that shouldn't get in the way of a visit to the Rhondda Heritage Park, a coal mining park at the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery. You can ride in a cage to the pit bottom and a "thrill ride" is offered back to the surface. Ground level attractions include an indoor period village street, audio-visual displays, art gallery, a giant adventure playground, restaurant and shop. This site is fully accessible to the disabled, even underground, with reserved parking, toilet facilities and lifts where necessary. Opening timings change seasonally.
