Set in an erstwhile cloth mill and as India's first, Hard Rock Cafe Mumbai is a worthy opponent to Not Just Jazz. It is synonymous with great music and the huge tapestries hanging down from the rafters (spot Bono?) and DJ Roane's playlist reinforce the 'Rock' image. Funky memorabilia and a menu peppered with anecdotes keep you entertained till your mouth-watering steak gets served. Offering decidedly American cuisine, Hard Rock Mumbai arguably serves the best burgers in town. Suspended above the stretched bar is the performance area and not holding a good spot will assure you a neck cramp. Hard Rock Cafe doesn't take reservations, so while you wait for a table (especially on a Vayu night), browse the gift shop for classic HRC tees, baseball caps, pins, key chains and other trendy knick-knacks. If you'd like to avoid this Americana altogether, maybe the laid back Ghetto or the 'bang the head that doesn't headbang' type Toto's Garage will suit you better.
