Since gondolas are not available anywhere but here, the appeal reaches out to many who will never forget the boat ride they took. The memories can be further retained with a souvenir of the velvet slippers or furlane the gondoliers wear while they row. As is the tradition, they are made by convicts who use old bicycle tires to fashion the soles of these comfortable feet 'gloves'.
