Azekura serves delicious homemade noodles in an interesting eighteenth century converted sake warehouse. Azekura is fully licensed and makes an excellent stop for lunch, after which you can tour the impressive grounds and gallery, which has occasional displays of fine kimonos. The old sake warehouse atmosphere is unique, complete with intricate beams and an open fireplace. The noodle shop is located in tranquil north Kyoto near Ota Shrine. Prices are reasonable for the varied noodle dishes, either soba (thin noodles) or udon (thick noodles). Menu items include herring, tempura and fried tofu with the noodles of choice. A set meal would add rice, pickles and miso soup.
