Uotake is a traditional blowfish (fugu) restaurant near Kinkakuji. Blowfish is an expensive delicacy prepared by specially licensed chefs who remove the poison sacs from the fish, leaving only a slight taste that may slightly numb the lips. The first floor is traditional Japanese in style and there is also an upstairs reception and banqueting room. Uotake has blowfish courses, including sashimi (raw fish), as well as a lively counter bar where you can watch your next meal in the tank and pluck up enough courage to eat it. There are also cheaper non-blowfish dishes available.
