One in eight tourists to Kyoto from overseas visits this six-storey emporium, which opened in 1967. Many tour buses make a stop here. Overseas residents also find souvenirs here, which can be gifted to near and dear ones. A great range of goods is for sale: damascene, cloisonne, swords, kimonos, fans, Noh masks, antique and contemporary woodblock prints, lacquerware, pearls, pottery, cameras, books, dolls, multi-system video recorders, silk, kites and gold-leaf goods. There is even a handicraft school on the sixth floor. Free simple maps of the city are available.
