Situated in the northern Shinano area, the museum was established in 1992. The 400 pieces of the major Japanese-style painter, Chinami Nakajima, are displayed in a separate gallery. He is known for his flower and bird motifs as well as for very striking wood block prints. Sculpture and metal works by Fuminori Haruyama are included in the museum's holdings. Another attraction is a display of festival floats borrowed from local community organizations which have been designated as Obuse cultural assets.
