The Polish word kawaleria means "cavalry," and this is the owner's inside joke, as she is an accomplished and well-known Polish equestrian. The walls of this lovely establishment (located just off Krakow's main square) are decorated with her horseback-riding mementos and with press clippings about the restaurant, among which is a Newsweek magazine article that lists Kawaleria as one of Krakow's most beautiful eateries. The separate rooms and garden area make for distinct but equally enjoyable dining experiences. Dine here if you're looking for traditional Polish cuisine, as Kawaleria offers such dishes as maczanka, a typical Krakowian dish of bread and roast pork, for which the restaurant has won several awards. You'll also find an extensive wine list, with a white or red to perfectly complement your adventurous meal. Open 11am onwards.
