The architecture of this stunning estate evokes the Roman and Gothic styles. It's impossible to write about this estate as a whole, as each building has its own character. Along the property there is a succession of gardens, lakes, fountains, caves, and small palaces, which will leave you astounded as you explore. Hidden symbols in relation to secret organizations such as the Masons and the Knights Templars are said to be hidden throughout the property. Although it was built long ago, only in 1892, when Carvalho Monteiro (better known as "Millions Monteiro") acquired the property, did it begin to gain the artistic wealth for which it is known today. In 1997, the Village Council forced the purchase of the estate, to prevent a Japanese company from turning the property into a hotel. Guided tours are available, and must be scheduled ahead by telephone. Tours allow groups of up to 20 people. Price: PTE2000; 50% off for students, locals and seniors over 65 years old.
