Formerly home to some British soldiers, Holland Village is now better recognized as an expatriate enclave. It is especially bustling with activity on weekends, with many flocking here to shop, wine and dine. The vast selection of Asian art, antiques and handicrafts sold by the many dealers here make this a popular spot amongst tourists as well. An interesting facet to note is the blend of old and modern Singapore traditional shophouses nestle amongst shopping complexes, while traditional coffee shops jostle alongside glitzy wine bars and restaurants.
