Trinidad & Tobago Carnival is without doubt the most beloved national festival. The build-up begins after Christmas and climaxes on the Monday and Tuesday before Lent. It is an exhilarating celebration of the island's culture with numerous events, including calypso and soca music competitions and happening seasonal parties across the country. Port of Spain is the nerve center for all the activity. By noon on Carnival Monday morning, the stage is set for the festival's climax, beginning with Jouvert and ending with the much-anticipated street parade on Monday and Tuesday in which costumed revelers take to the streets in all their colorful splendor.
