Designated in 1994 and covers Tucson from two sides, Saguaro National Park gives protection to native and animals and plants, most prominently the stately Saguaro cactus is a well-known icon of the Arizonan and Mexican deserts. Both locations have loop roads for driving and cycling, visitor's centers, bookstores, hiking trails, picnic areas and exhibit centers. The Westside park also has a remarkable ancient petroglyph site. Rangers offer special interpretative hikes on request. There is no admission fee for the Westside; however, the Eastside park charges for per car. This place is open daily at 7am.

Cyril

A great place to appreciate Saguaro cacti in their natural environment

(Rating: 5) by Cyril on October 9, 2008

This place is very eerie when you find yourself in a forest among those majestic giant cacti. Each is unique in its shape and it's fun to imagine them as humans from afar. The West part has the most impressive landscapes with great views from Wasson peak. It can get REALLY hot in the summer there so make sure to bring plenty of water if you go hiking!

A wonderful desert park. Certainly worth stopping in for a visit, and it's not far from a couple museums.
