This is a strenuous hike with an elevation gain of over 1,000 feet over the course of about a mile. In other words, it is quite steep. Along that change in elevation, you will get to see how plant life varies at various altitudes. When you get to the top, you will be rewarded with incredible views of both the top of Yosemite Falls and of the Yosemite Valley as a whole. Plan on taking your time. The round-trip usually takes at least two hours and often three. Start at Sunnyside Camp 4 near Shuttle Stop 7. Bring water, and be sure to wear a hat and comfortable walking shoes or boots. The trail may be closed in the winter. For your safety, it is recommended that this hike be completed before dark.

Start this hike from the Valley floor!
I'd recommend to start this hike from the valley floor at the bottom of Yosemite Falls. Total elevation is 2,400 feet and it's a strenuous hike, but you'll loose the crowd quickly and enjoy beautiful different close-up viewpoints of the lower and upper falls on your way up. At the top, the stream is eerily serene before dropping off the cliff. Try to *safely* stretch out lying down at the cliff edge for an awesome view of the water falling right under you. This hike is most impressive in spring when the water flow is at its peak from snow melt. Yosemite Falls can fill up an Olympic swimming pool every second with its flow!
