Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve Julian, CA (part of San Diego Guide)

Explore this virtually untouched, magnificent local mountain rising to 5,000 feet behind the mountain town of Julian. Regularly scheduled free, guided hikes happen weekly throughout the summer and monthly during the fall. Visitors should be aware that there are no restrooms at the site. The weather can be changeable, so layer clothing and bring a jacket even on warm days; wear suitable shoes or hiking boots; and carry enough water. The first half-mile of the trail is steep and may not be suitable for the casual hiker.
