Step back in time and into this primeval forest on Mount Tamaplais. Some of these towering redwoods are more than 2,000 years old. Trails are set out for the casual stroller and for the avid hiker looking for a challenge in the cool stillness of this 560-acre national park. Furthermore, artfully constructed boardwalks through much of the area make this destination eminently accessible. No pets or smoking is allowed. It's recommended that you bring a sweater or light jacket along. Parking space is limited. The best time to arrive is early morning or late afternoon.

(Rating: 5) Visit giant Redwoods less than 1h from SF

by Cyril on June 4, 2008

This park is a little gem. If you're visiting the San Francisco Bay Area, it's a very interesting trip to see from your own eyes some of the tallest trees on Earth. Go there and be awed. The Redwoods are nearly as impressive as the ones in Redwoods National Park over a 6h drive away. The tallest trees at the bottom of the valley can be seen immediately through a small loop walk, but more adventurous hikers can venture out of the canyon towards the beautiful the coast line and its famous beaches.
