Adjoining the Cornell Hotel de France, it features a French medieval decor that consists of rich tapestries and large paintings. The dining room is elegant with fresh flowers on the tables. The clientele consists of hotel guests and downtown regulars. The menu changes daily, but count on items such as Broiled Sea Bass in a Saffron and White Wine Sauce, and Filet Mignon with Truffle sauce. (Rating: 5) A great little-known romantic French restaurant

by Cyril on April 5, 2008

You may easily miss this wonderful underground restaurant under the Cornell hotel in downtown San Francisco. It's a wonderfully quiet and romantic place for a special evening like valentine's day. The medieval decor has a lot of memorabilia on Joan of Arc adds some charm to the experience. The food is quite good although accompanying veggies seem fairly generic (i.e. not necessarily paired with the meat or fish). This said it's a great deal for French cuisine! Make sure to try their souffle with Grand Marnier and order it with your meal as it takes them a while to cook it and its serving has to be timed well. The best in town. It's to die for!
