Located just 30 west of Colorado Springs, this National Monument provides stunning glimpses to what roamed over the planet 30-million years ago. Amazingly detailed fossils of over 1,400 insects and 140 plants have been found in this mountain meadow, making it a popular museum supply center. Over 14 miles of trails fan through the park including the Petrified Loop (one mile) that passes petrified sequoia stumps. Visit in summer when the wildflowers are putting on a show.
