This monument is not only a memorial to the nation's 32nd president, but also a remembrance of the people of his time. The monument stretches along the Tidal Basin with four outdoor gallery rooms, connected by granite passageways. Each room exhibits aspects of Franklin D. Roosevelt's terms in office. The second room, for example, depicts the Great Depression with statues waiting in a bread line and of a man listening to a fireside chat. Another room contains a statue of Eleanor Roosevelt, the only memorial to honor a First Lady. The monument is glorified by waterfalls and pools.

Stop by, it's worth it
Not your typical single statue memorial, this tribute wanders along the Tidal Basin with loads of large granite stone, water features everywhere, and four major areas of FDRs term represented. I always stroll through here when the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom. While I don't take the audio tour over each year (I should), I do sit on the many benches to watch the tourists, enjoy the water features, and admire the pink and white Cherry Blossom blooms. When it's not peak CB time, I like it best when the crowds are low and one can really reflect about FDR, history, current life, or anything in between. Get the audio tour to learn about the President and country during his tenure.
