Located just outside the front gate of George Washington's beloved home, this restaurant's colonial ambiance complements a visit to Mount Vernon. Wooden floors, wooden chairs and pristine white clothed tables create an 18th-century atmosphere. The inn has three fireplaces, and servers wear colonial costumes. The menu reflects colonial and regional delicacies. For an appetizer, try the unusual Peanut and Chestnut Soup, an old Virginia favorite, or Colonial Hoe Cakes, corn cakes topped with Smithfield ham and sautéed crabmeat. Among the entrees, the Stuffed Pork Loin with Opium Sauce is a favorite and the stuffing is made of Virginia peanuts and cornbread.
