Covering a huge expanse of well over 1.5 million acres, this park is one of the most diverse and stunning natural habitats left on earth. It is an incredibly unique site harboring such wildlife as the American Crocodile, Florida Panther, and West Indian Manatee making this one of the largest concentration of endangered species on earth. Its well-deserved spot as a World Heritage Site, an International Biosphere Reserve, and a Wetland of International Importance draws hundreds of tourists each year, eager to learn of its diversity. A little known fact: this was the site of the Seminole Indian Wars where hundreds of Native Americans sought refuge from encroaching union troops within the dense waterways and little-known Islands.
