This French-market coffee stand, established in 1862, offers a menu of dark coffee and chicory, beignets, white or chocolate milk and freshly-squeezed orange juice. Cafe Du Monde is one of the most popular places in New Orleans for singles, couples and families. You may have to wait for a table during the busiest morning hours. While the coffee is certainly good, most people come for the famous, fresh-from-the-fryer beignets. They are brought to your table in such a hurry that they are still hot when you take that first melt-in-your-mouth bite. If you feel hungry at anytime of the day, hop in to devour this delicious array!

Cafe Du Monde ain't what it used to be!

(Rating: 1) by M on July 8, 2009

I have been to Cafe Du Monde many times, as a former resident of the New Orleans area. I have always looked forward to going there the beignets used to be something really special. Incredible! I have not lived in New Orleans for awhile, and tonight went back there, the first time in about a year. I was totally disappointed. The beignets were overcooked, dried to perfection, like yesterdays' trash. Really they were only fit for the garbage can. I politely tried to explain this to the waitress, who being unable to speak any English at all thought I didn't want an order of beignets! Finally she figured it out and brought another order to me, equally just as disgusting. I CAN ASSURE YOU I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN. I am thoroughly disappointed. Like I said, it used to be the showplace of New Orleans, now to me it is a horrible place. - Oh and to top it off, they charge you 50 cents for a cup of city tap water! It is a complete disgrace. Unfortunately I am forced to give it a 1 in this survey, it really deserves a zero. Lousy place, lousy service, I recommend you avoid it completely at all costs! Cafe du Monde, just ain't what it used to be! ML
