According to the locals, this is a day that Norman Rockwell could not have painted better to represent the true flavor of Americans celebrating the 4th of July on Nantucket Island. Get to Main Street early in the day to pick a good spot to watch the battling firetrucks and delight in the competition to see which side gets wetter. The streets are replete with children's bikes, wagons and strollers decorated with patriotic streamers and flags. A fireworks display follows at dusk. Free admission.
