Mark Twain National Forest, in particular, offers a wealth of mind-balming escapes. More than 742 miles of trails fan throughout this hardwood forest, all of them perfect for hiking, biking, wildlife viewing and horseback riding. Some trails are adorned with interpretive posts explaining the park's fauna and fur-covered inhabitants. Camping and fishing are popular attractions, too. Branson is bordered on both sides by the forest.
