With a history going back to the 1960s and the glory days of Gaslight Square, O'Connell's Pub has long been a treasured hangout for St. Louisians. Gaslight Square and its arty environs are long gone, but O'Connell's still thrives in the southside home it has had since 1972. The long, dark bar is a friendly one, with a clientele that ranges from academics and artists to businessmen and students. The hamburgers are legendary, and the fish and chips are just as good.

No parking, incredibly smoky inside, dirty tables, super tiny bathroom, extremely slow service, and cash only. So, why the four star rating? The burgers...

Good Burger, but a great man behind the bar...

I'm a visitor to St. Louis, so I decided to give O'Connell's a try for their famous burgers and maybe complement that with an Irish spirit.

Don't expect service with a smile here...

Great food, Absolutely terrible service. I used to put up with it, but now I think no burger is worth being treated like dirt.

The food is great, however, all side orders are separate. I'm still one of those people who wants an order of fries to come with their burger....
