Opened in February 2000, this place is an entry into a grand Ionian home. From the limestone floors to the stonewashed walls and the massive French doors, one is overwhelmed by its luxurious yet homely decor. Come by to get an exquisite taste of the Raw Bar featuring Littleneck Clams, Malpeque Oysters and so on. Be sure to taste the house specialties, as you wouldn't want to miss out on something 'special'. A two-course Pre-Theatre Menu is also on offer. This restaurant also gives you the liberty to create your own party menus, making it an ideal place for intimate celebrations.

(Rating: 4) Home of the $100 fish!

by Kevin on February 22, 2008

My brother-in-law and I had dinner there this past Tuesday night. We had a dozen bluepoint oysters (exquisite), some kind of greek fondue appetizer, and then shared a whole fish, shipped all the way in from the Aegean sea that day. The fish probably weighed 2 1/2 lbs -- more than enough for two grown guys -- and was listed as "Market Price." We were astonished when we got the bill that the fish was $100. We laughed it off over a second bottle of Greek red wine. Total damage was about $175.00 per person with tip. If you're looking for outstanding greek food and aren't put off by the prices, I highly recommend Avra. Great service, really nice decor, cool atmosphere. Better suited for a business dinner or a large group than a quiet dinner for two. It got pretty loud. Or, was that just our table?
