Belcourt Castle is a unique medieval-style mansion and is one of the few great Newport homes still privately owned. Tour guides of the sixty room museum will tell you of the rich history of the armor collection and Renaissance treasures as well the history of former owners, including the Vanderbilts. The current owners' extensive collection of Asian and European art fills the house. Ghosts and an air of mystery fill the house as Belcourt offers spooky candlelight tours in addition to its historical and architectural tours. Walk through this spectacular 60-room, 1890s medieval-style castle designed by the famous architect Richard Morris Hunt and view the splendor of its magnificent banquet hall, solarium, oak circular staircase, Gothic ballroom, library, grand halls and beautiful music room. The owners of the Belcourt still reside there and only open their home periodically to the public. Special tours like the Candlelight Tours take place daily between September and December at 6p and the Ghost Tours are organized daily from September to December at 5p. Make it a point to attend at least one of the Christmas Tea Sundays in December.
