If you can only attend one of St. John's July 4th Celebration events, make it this one. The best of the island's cooks whip up traditional West Indian foods seldom seen on restaurant menus. For a real treat, try the old-fashioned candy, whelks in butter sauce or Miss Jane's lobster salad. Vendors also sell unique arts and crafts such as bowls made out of calabash. For a glimpse into local life, stick around to see Miss St. John crowned, which usually happens around 1p.
