Great location, decent service, rooms vary greatly
This hotel is steps from the Chateau Lake Louise, so you can rely on its shops and services while dining and sleeping someplace far more intimate and relaxing. The level of service is subtle, it takes a while to see what is offered, including Internet access. But the rooms vary greatly in age, size, and features, and it's hard to get a handle on just what you're getting for your price category. If you're adaptable about the room itself and choose the hotel for its location, you'll probably be satisfied at least.
Great location, decent service, rooms vary greatly
Comfortable room, crosscountry skiing right out the front door, large public room to warm up after a ski, good clean hot tub. Other guests are friendly, interesting people. Why spend 300 a night more for the stuffy hotel up the road ?
small rooms
The location is great, just in back of the Fairmont Lake Louise property. Within walking distance of Lake Louise. Rooms are very small and hotel is old.
Our room wasn't much bigger than needed for furnishings, which were definitely "old school" - but we were within easy walking distance of Lake Louise - the only other hotel in the immediate vicinity is the Chateau Lake Louise, which costs about 3 times as much per night! With a sitting room, nice dining room, hot tub with a GREAT view, and other amenities, Deer Lodge is clearly based on the notion that you spend time in your room mostly to sleep. Considering the costs of other hotels in the area, I think Deer Lodge has a lot to offer, as long as you don't mind an older, small room.
You can't bet the location since your only other option to stay this close to Lake Louise would cost 400 a night or more. You can easily walk to the lake. The rooms were very musty-smelling and basic (no phone or tv). We ate in the lounge, and the food we had was the best of our whole trip.
It's a very expensive area, so this is reasonable relative to some of the others. The room was small and hot, but the service was good. Not a bad place to stay.
