Crowne Plaza Santiago
Great hotel. Excellent staff, services, and location.
live and learn
I stayed in this hotel assuming the Crowne Plaza name would suffice for a four star hotel. First of all this hotel is chock full of airline crews and worse, cruise ship passengers. The four free internet computers downstairs are always occupied by them or kids IMing. The beds are comfy but I gather someone slightly overweight each weed stayed in mine as it tilted to one side. The bathrooms are the deal breaker, though. Circa 1970 with water in the shower going from scalding to freezing every few seconds. The area was also a shock. I didn't feel safe at night and took a taxi to be elsewhere (the other Holiday Inn (Exress, I think) is in a lovely neighborhood and cheaper, to boot. The swimming pool was very nice but I didn't pay 169 for a pool. The dining room was dark and brooding with no windows and very expensive. The staff were accomodating but made it very clear that they were absorbing that 19% tax that foreigners don't pay.The only plus was the location across from San Cristobal.Next time I will stay elsewhere.

I checked in and had reqested an upgrade to the executive level on my reservation. The front desk balked at this request and stated that if I paid an extra 30US, then I could be given an executive room. I have stayed at Crowne Plazas before and the executive floor entitles you to extra amenities i.e. acess to the lounge for breakfast, drinks and horderves. Only the breakfast
