great place to stay SAFE too

WE stayed there for one noght only. it was ok, with good value for money.

 by  anonymous  on  2008-02-08

I arrived to find that I paid more money per night to stay in a larger room, and yet I was placed in a small, 10x10 room....there was no hot water in the sink (no water came out of that faucet) and there was no hot water in the shower from about 7 am to 9:15 am...... I asked three times to be moved to another room, and no one responded. The hotel restaurant is fairly good and reasonable, and the service is good if you get the right waiter or waitress..... there were 2 who were horrible, and the remaining ones were excellent....I don't believe I would stay there again, only because hot water was advertised (agua caliente) and they did not deliver

The location is close to the museums and the cultural center but you will have to deal with lots of pedestrians and cars. The museums are really the only child-friendly activities in the area. This is a good place to be if you need to stay in San Jose for the night but don't really need more than a shower and bed. The parking attendants were friendly and did a good job of watching over the parking lot. The rooms were very basic and worn. Our biggest problem was getting an iron. We repeatedly asked for an iron over the 1.5 days we were there without much luck. We were told that they were all checked out and that they would get back to us (they never did). As you can imagine this is a serious problem if you need to iron a suit or dress for a meeting. The food was fair in quality and price although the breakfast menu was very limited.

It is located on Central Avenue - right in the midst of all things good and all things bad. The 'bouncer' aka security who was ever present at the front entrance was kind of disturbing. I was told to put my gold necklace inside of my shirt and to take my earrings off. I am from NYC and declined his suggestion. (As a matter of fact there were 'bouncers' all over the place in downtown San Jose - not just in front of the hotels!) However, I have seen worse and been in worse areas. I did not at any time feel threatened or in any kind of danger. I personally liked the location for the time that I spent there. One day before Puerto Viejo and one day after. Shopping, restaurants and museums etc were within walking distance. Now for the rooms! It would be a typical low end hotel room in the states. Small and with a musty smell. TV and AC worked fine. The bed was ok. Only 1 pillow and I like 2! The worse part of the accommodations was listening to other people taking showers, their conversations and the toilets flushing! The walls are paper thin. The free breakfast in the hotel restaurant was quite good. We also had lunch there and it was equally as good. No real complaints about the hotel. I was not in NYC / ATL or LA . It is not the Hilton . I did not plan to stay more than a couple of nights. So it was fine.
