It is what a hotel room should be
If you are like me and looking for a clean, safe place to put your head after a full day of travel and adventure, then this hotel will satisfy your needs. If you travel to spend your time in a plush hotel, then keep looking. I found the hotel workers to be very helpful. Internet was available with ease. It was a comfortable situation. No question about safety since the obligatory iron gates that cover all sorts of structures in San Jose are present. Great location. I was able to walk to the National Theater as well as all the museums. No need for a city tour when you have this kind of location and helpful hotel hosts. The only complaint is that the free breakfast was a little skimpy, even for package standards. Otherwise, I'd be happy to return to this same spot for another adventure in Costa Rica.
It is what a hotel room should be
A nice place to come to after a day of adventures. Friendly personnel, very clean grounds and not too crowded, more like a small family atmosphere. Free breakfast consist of fruits and pastries, coffee and juices which are served at 7:00 AM. They were very courteous to family members that came to visit me. Do not worry about location, area around hotel no different than New York City or Miami.
Great hotel deal in San Jose!
Although San Jose is a packed, chaotic city this hotel is spacious and relaxing. It had a bed & breakfast feel with only 20 rooms, each guest getting to know the other. The staff went above & beyond over & over. XYZ at the front desk was able to answer questions and give suggestions. It was remarkably clean and we felt safe in the midst of the chaos of San Jose. We slept each night with our door open with only the chain on the door to allow air to circulate. Our sheets were changed every other day. Our room was cleaned right when we left. The water was HOT! A nice surprise! There was a great pool area and outdoor workout space. The Oasis Restaurant attached to the hotel was truly a treat. The waiter & bar tender makes a great cafe con leche & the chef's food was good. It as close to everything downtown the market and tourist shops. Across the street is a great little Soda where you can get a huge meal for 4 and beside that is a great little bar. We were impressed with our little Bed & Breakfast and we will be back, if not for San Jose, for the remarkable service and individual attention we received at Hotel Santo Tomas.
It is what a hotel room should be
Have stayed before 2X and this is main reason to return. Presumptuous as it may sound, I feel like a family member. Great Breakfast, excellent restaurant, broadband internet, Knowlegable travel and tour assistance and a great staff. I had a great week. Hope I can return in June.
Great hotel deal in San Jose!
Last stay was in August 07 and I vowed to make like MacArthur and return. I doodit! I love this place. Nicest staff anywhre! Great breakfast and Costa Rican Coffee each morning. I ran out of pain pills for arthritis. The staff found some for me and had them delivered to my room. I have an adopted family with kids that visit. The staff allows them to use the pool which I sincerely appreciate. I used my laptop in room and the internet zips. God willing I will be back again. Hopefully in January. Pura Vida
GREAT for the price
Staff (X & Y) was very helpful! They gave great local information & helped to book tours. Restaurant was wonderful for dinner. Included breakfast was ample, fruits, pastries, juice & coffee. Rooms are all different with antique furniture. No AC but not needed! I stayed in August & needed a blanket when the ceiling fan was on. The front lobby has a nice sitting area. It was a great place to meet several of the guests and chat with the friendly staff. Hotel has an ample workout room. Use common sense and caution when venturing out after dark. This is the same for ant city of this size. All in all, this one hundred year old is a great deal for the traveler who wants a facility with personality and not the typical "chain hotel" feel. I will stay here again!!!
