Hotel Gran Ronda, on Sant Antoni

 by  anonymous  on  2008-03-09

The hotel was quaint, but nice. Very clean, overall. The staff would bring up extra towels and hygiene items on request in a timely manner. The staff was friendly, albeit not very familiar with the surroundings around the hotel (like phone booths, restaurants, convenience stores at night, etc). However, with a little venturing, we found a tabacco store, a great cafe, some good restaurants and falafel shops, a great new wave bar, an ATM machine, a bakery, quaint shops, and a store that stayed open all night. This is a quieter location (compared to the Barri Gotic), yet very convenient with the metro less than a block away. The downsides to staying here are the following: ? We thought they had laundry service (and packed according to the fact we thought we could do wash), but the service was for delivery and was VERY pricey. ? There was no coffee bar (and I am a woman who NEEDS her coffee in the morning) or room service. ? There is a kitchen downstairs, yet we were never awake before 11 am to try it. ? The biggest turn-off for me was the beds. Oh those beds! They were awful. It was like sleeping on a military cot. Ouch. If you stay here, do not plan on relaxing in your room in a cozy bed with cable tv... these things simply do not exist here.Overall, my traveling mate and I had a nice time at the hotel. The nighttime clerks were extremely pleasant. If this hotel got better beds and coffee for the rooms I would definitely stay again... but until then I shall look for a more comfy place in the same area.
