The George Hotel is an elegant Grade II listed hotel occupying a colorful and varied history. Situated in the main square of Huddersfield, the building compliments its neighbor, the Huddersfield Railway Station with its fine Italian faade designed by William Walker. The George was built in the Victorian period around 1851 and is famous as the birthplace of Rugby League Football, the meeting that founded the organization was held here in 1895 and the memorabilia recalling this can be found throughout the hotel as well as in the recently opened Rugby League Museum.
