Great Location
I brough my two sisters here for a vacation. The hotel itself is in a great location. Easy to walk everywhere you want to see. Taxi services easy to get and tube station is close by. Three things to remember when staying here. 1. This really bothered me--the entire staff is is almost 90% Italian and had trouble understanding alot of English. I know a little so it was not a big deal--it would be a very big deal for someone expecting an English staff. 2. No water pressure in the showers or toilets. Be flexible. 3. Food is very expensive in the hotel. You have to pay 32 about 16 british pounds for breakfast even if all you want is a small bowl of cereal and coffee. This was inexcusable and totally unacceptable not to be able to have a choice. The dining staff looked so bored with every facet of their lifes--they should just go off somewhere in private and slit their throats. I llived in Italy for four years. this is typical of them. They have no customer service skills and could care less about it. I lived in Italy for four years--I was sorrta ok with it--my sisters were appalled. I bought a surprise birth day cake at Harrods for my oldest sister. Back at the hotel I asked for three cake plates and three forks to take to the room for the surprise. Of course NO WAY. YOu have to buy food from the hotel. Again very unacceptable. We used our coffee cup saucers and spoons in the room.
Great Location
Nice location- close to Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and the tube. That made it worth while. The staff was great. Hotel seems a little dated, and my bed was feeling pretty old, and not very comfortable. Price of food in the hotel was over the top. Overall a hotel that was okay, but not one I would tell everyone they had to stay at. I would try another one in another locaiton next time.I also did not enjoy the noise of the trucks picking up the trash at 5 am.
Hotel
Overall, the hotel has a fascinating history - there's a grand entrance with magnificent balcony and sweeping stares in blue and white. The hotel actually has some hidden doors and even an underground tunnel that used to be used by Members of Parliment to go to the Jolly pub. Have breakfast in the morning in the grand ballroom, which has been filmed for movies as well. The location overall is excellent, right near major attractions. I would say some of the rooms are great while others need work. The hotel is in the middle of refreshing all the rooms, so DEFINITELY ask to be in a room that has recently been renovated (I believe one side of the hotel is now complete). Overall, a unique and interesting hotel with a great location.
I stayed at the Hotel on a 2 week business trip. If you are looking for a place to stay near all the big tourist attractions (Westminster Abbey, London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace), this is the place. The room was small, but normal for London. The staff was friendly and the room was nice and clean. The only complaint is that there was not much open around the hotel after 7pm if you are looking for other places to dine. But access to the tube is just around the corner. Would definitely stay again.
I stayed here for a business trip, but brought my wife and two children (ages 3 and 1) so we could go sightseeing after work. The hotel is just around the corner from Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, and within walking distance of Picadilly Circus. The room was nice, and my wife (who's spent a lot more time traveling around Europe than I have) informed me that the room was huge by European standards; especially the bathroom (for American travelers, you can expect a room only a little bit smaller than you're used to here).
Could not get heat for over a week. Staff worked well with us. Rooms were good. Highly recommend!
